Why We Do It

"The more involved I've gotten in the Athens community, the more I've realized that there is a huge divide between the "glamour" one finds on UGA's campus and the poverty found in Athens-Clarke County. Also, the more I've connected with teen girls in the Athens community, the more convicted I've felt about the serious need for the negative norms and low expectations that have been set for these young ladies to be challenged. For the Truth to cross out Satan's lies and for the love and piercing light of God to tear through those same lies (often cycling for generations) that are barricading them from becoming the strong, powerful women that God intended for each of them to be.

I began sharing my passion with other young women on campus. Everywhere I turned, people where jumping at the opportunity to be a part of this movement. So, before I knew it, I Am Enough was born.

We hope that engaging UGA students with these young ladies will lay another brick in the efforts to bridge the gap between our campus and the Athens community. Also, we believe that investing in these young ladies via several relationships (e.g. their mentors, their fellow mentees, speakers, exec members, etc.) will build up a generation of fearless young women that will reach back and initiate change in their own communities.

Rather than recreating them, we simply hope to awaken the greatness that lies within by investing in their talents and sharpening their skills."
